Linux

I'm a big fan of Linux, more specifically Gentoo. It became my primary OS for all my computers after having tried Ubuntu, Fedora, Centos, Mandriva, and a few others.

This site is currently hosted on my oldest machine, also running Gentoo. It is my primary home server and does pretty much everything, from web hosting, to file hosting and even as my voip server. Her name is Susan.

I'm thinking of setting up another personal server which would act as my development server instead of always using Susan. This way, I could really experiment with it without fear of permanently damaging my precious.

Programming and Development

I learned Java through school, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The next schoolyear however, we switched to C# and then to PHP. Wanting to learn more than the basics which we were taught in school, I practiced my programming at home. I started with PHP, then moved to C then C++, then finally to Python. I also got into a bit of Perl while in my first job, but I never really got into it.

Recently, I have been refreshing myself on all the other programming languages besides PHP, and have come up with a few projects from those. One such project is my Android app which sends all my received messages to Susan, where a python daemon is running, ready to put the data in a database.

Electronics

I also got into basic electronics. I started with an Atmel AT89c2051 but quickly moved to an AVR. This is where I really got into programming with C. I have built many nonsense items for fun and those got disassembled right after testing. The only one remaining is my tiny UV exposure box.
