Been busy lately, tinkering and studying stuff.
xslt - semi-required for work, so I read up on this and its pretty useful. Makes working with xml files easier.
C/C++ shared library usage - re-read about this and tested it out again.
FreeBSD - just installed this on an old laptop here in the house, looks promising. Installed without any real problems. Only problem I ran into was that I booted off the livefs cd instead of the install dvd.
Globe Tattoo - Got this working in linux, should be pretty easy to use in the carpc
I'm starting gpsd from a startup script that is launched by /etc/conf.d/local.start. It starts up fine and I can see it running in the background, but it doesn't give out coordinates to any program that asks. I'm thinking that the daemon is being started before the device is ready, I'm going to have to put a few delays somewhere between boot and the daemon launch.
Another is the obdgpslogger. It is starting fine, and merrily logging away then suddenly stops for no apparent reason. I've narrowed it down to me accessing Olga which caused the error.
The CarPC, which I have named Olga has been installed in my car today. Most of the crawling and rewiring were done by my friend Dennis, while I worked on the computer itself. We initially had problems getting the center console removed, but with enough patience, we eventually figured it out.

I recently got the missing pieces to get my car pc working. I have all the necessary parts to get it working with the basics, although I will still need a touchscreen lcd to make it better.
I already have a gentoo system booting off a 4GB usb stick. Pretty much everything I'll need is already installed there. The board for it is an Intel 945GCLF2 and it has 1 GB of RAM. It boots in approximately 20 seconds, and I can still shave off a lot of seconds from that by disabling unnecessary services.
