DIY 19" Rack

DIY 19" Server Rack

Inspired by a few other DIY 19" racks that I saw on the internet, I decided to build my own. As usual, my friend Dennis came along to help. Total build time was around 6 hours. We took longer than the expected 4 hours because of not being efficient enough to buy everything we needed on the first trip to the hardware store. In the end, we managed to pull it off and that's what matters.

The holes don't match the standards of 19" servers, but we found that these work well enough.

I will be migrating my current home server there and future machines will be mounted on the rack too.

There aren't any pictures during the build simply because we forgot to take them.

Update #1

As the first addition to the rack, I purchased more steel bars which will be used as additional vertical mount points. We had the bars cut in half again, and secured those somewhere inside the rack. This will serve as the mount points when installing more computers that will be able to slide out.

We also used a normal desktop case that's been in my room for more than a year and mounted it on the rack. Hopefully the flimsy metal used in the generic case would be able to hold up when more parts are added.
